The KATS Sailing instructors are all volunteers that teach the sailing course and give up a lot of their time to make the program work and graduate accomplished students every year.
Sailing Director: Nels Hagenson
Nels has been part of the KATS program for many years. A retired airline pilot from Canada, he and his wife Linda have done so much for the sailing program. Nels has been director of sailing for over three years, overseeing all levels of the program. Besides being the sailing director, Nels and Linda enjoy sailing their 41' ketch, flying their private plane based out at Beef Island, and are very active in the Rotary Club of Tortola, and church groups.
Instructors:
Jim Linskey has been active with the KATS program since 1995, when he would visit Tortola on occasion till 2003 when Jim made Tortola his home. His life has been spent in the sailing industry, mostly racing sailboats over the years in different parts of the world. Jim sailed professionally for ten years until 2003, logging in over one hundred thousand open ocean miles. Jim loves teaching the level one students, watching their facial expressions when they finally get the "hang" of sailing, but his expertise lies at the racing end of sailing.
