KATS Sailing FAQs

Question:

What if my child already knows how to swim and wants to join the sailing program?

Answer:

Your child has to take a test from the swimming program to show his abilities in swimming. From there they are required to take basic boating to move into the sailing program.

Question:

My child is still a little frightened of the sea, even though they know how to swim.

Answer:

Not to worry. We make the sailing program fun and we have a nice clam beach that the kids can swim from. After the first few sessions, most children lose the fear that they bring with them!

Question:

We live at the East End of the island, both husband and wife work saturdays and have no way to get our child to and from the sessions.

Answer:

The Sailing program has a bus service for those students that have a transportation problem attending the sessions.

Question:

My son has a tendency to get sea sick. Is this going to be a problem?

Answer:

No, we keep the kids so busy that they don't have time to feel ill! The motion on a dinghy is much different than a Ferry or powerboat. He'll be fine!
